Students Sample African Cuisine

OHS students sampled two ethnic foods today, thanks to a partnership with the Indian Hills Culinary Department. Culinary students are providing a sample each month through the end of the year.

OHS students sampled Ethiopian doro wat (chicken stew) and mealie bread (steamed corn bread) during their lunch period. This didn't replace the regular lunch meal already scheduled.

This is the second in a series of ethic food samples offered to OHS students. The purpose is to try new items that can potentially be added to the school lunch menu while Indian Hills students learn new skills. The only stipulation is that items use commodity foods in creative ways. She also hopes to integrate more ethnic foods into future school menus.

Students were surveyed after lunch to gauge interest in adding this item in the future.
