Iron Chef Competition

Teacher and student working on meal preparation

Next Friday, OHS students will participate in a Jamaican-themed Iron Chef competition against seven other southeast Iowa schools. These students will have a limited time to prepare an appetizer, main entree, and dessert for a panel of three judges. Not only will they be judged on the taste of their dishes, but also on their knife skills, sanitation, food handling, proper cooking procedures, food prep, food utilization, clean up, and teamwork. “We have been tracking down some key ingredients that cannot be found at the typical grocery store,” said Mandy Walker, a family consumer science teacher at OHS. “We have been to Mexican, Asian, and African markets in town to find ingredients!”

Chefs competing include: Thomas Mitchel, Isabelle Cunningham, Joshua Johnson, Hunter Pitzl, Owen Thompson, and Brandon Spencer.
