Anthony Reyman, an OHS junior, decided to use his drone flying business as the topic for a recent demonstration speech in his Public Speaking class.
Reyman has been flying drones since he was 10-years-old. His hobby started out with a $30 drone. Today his hobby-turned-business features a professional drone used to capture videos for realtors and private property owners.
His demonstration began with a short slide show highlighting drone flying basics. The presentation included several flight terms such as pitch, roll, throttle, etc. He then asked for a volunteer and let a student fly his drone in class. "My finger was shaking," said Junior Sam Mathiesen. "I didn't want to mess it up."
With clear skies, Mrs. Carpenter took the class outside so Reyman could provide a better demonstration. Students were wowed at how far and high the drone could fly. Reyman is FAA certified and knows that he can fly in school zones, rated as fly with caution zones. He has an app on his phone that allows him to identify where he can and can't fly.
While his love of flying provides some extra income, it has also led to a career dream of flying drones for the military as a civilian. For now though, his business provides plenty of content to use for homework assignments.
