A group of OHS students wanted to create something positive out of their virus experience.
Next week, the OHS iJAG program will be selling face masks during lunch Monday - Wednesday. The project will help showcase and recruit for the OHS program which targets juniors and seniors. "The virus drastically changed our lives," said Naily Alvarenga, a senior who serves as president of the group. "This project allowed us to do something fun."
The custom masks feature either class years or are tie dyed. Tie dye masks will sell for $3 and masks with class years for $5. Custom orders will also be taken with delivery within two weeks. Proceeds will support future iJAG projects.
The project was unique--approximately half the class is participating virtually. Students worked together face-to-face to produce the masks over three class periods this week.
Nicolete Ware, a junior, said iJAG helps prepare students for college and career. She felt a lot of stress wondering how the group would complete 100 masks. "Now I know not to stress so much and that things are not going to be as bad as you think," she said.
The role of iJAG is to build confidence, said iJAG educational specialist, Amber Heckart. "We help students go outside their comfort zone."
