OHS senior, Hayden Short, has been recognized for her scores on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT).
Short, the daughter of Zac Short and Jessica Bogdan-Short, was recently notified by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that she has been named a Commended Student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation was presented to her by OHS principal, Richard Hutchinson. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. "I really wanted to do well," said Short. She spent over two months preparing for the test using the PSAT prep book. Her plans are to pursue a career in the medical field.
She was also selected for the College Board National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program. This recognition is based on her remarkable academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. The recognition will be shared with colleges.
Concurrent courses fill her senior schedule. She has taken several AP courses and will graduate with over 40 college credits. She also participates in drama, soccer, is performing community service to earn a Silver Cord to wear at graduation, and is active in her church. She will graduate with her CNA and is currently enrolled in the phlebotomy program. She is also helping her sister, who is a freshman at OHS, transition to high school
Retired teacher, Larry Zuehlke, was on hand to congratulate Short as well. "He played a huge role in getting me where I am today. He continues to push me to be the best student and person I can be," she said of her former middle school math teacher.
"I'm honored to have received these awards," she said.
