On Tuesday, October 27, the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office will conduct the 2020 Fall Iowa Youth Straw Poll. Last January, Ottumwa High School joined 269 schools statewide by participating in the Spring Iowa Youth Straw Poll. OHS students will vote during their lunch period.
Each year, this fun, interactive civics exercise helps demonstrate to students statewide the importance of voting in our country. The 2020 Fall Iowa Youth Straw Poll will ask students statewide to cast their vote for their preferred candidate for the following offices: U.S. President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives. Election results are tabulated by school, uploaded to the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, and then exported into a spreadsheet with participating schools from across the state.
