Natalie Bennett's favorite thing in high school has been music. She was in band, Meistersingers, Sudden Impact show choir, and was captain of the Color Guard during her junior and senior year. She is also active with The Bridge youth group as well as in her own church helping with music, drama, and children's programs.
Natalie has completed a full year at Indian Hills Community College through concurrent enrollment courses and is considering a career in music or teaching but keeping her options open right now. She enjoys working with children at her job in the Ottumwa Schools working with the PTYC and WRAP programs.
Favorite high school memory - "Travelling to competitions with the marching band and show choir. I remember getting first place in one competition for being the best Color Guard team during my sophomore year. I loved spinning flags and got to spin a rifle during my senior year show. Some of my best friends were my band mates. There was a real sense of family among this group. They seemed to accept people the way they were and gave them value.
Favorite teacher - "Mr. Gerleman made me smile and laugh and truly listened to his students and tried to cheer them up when they were having a bad day. Mr. Gerleman made me want to be a band teacher."
Advice to Underclassmen - "Get involved in music programs, sports, or clubs. Getting involved not only helps the transition from middle school to high school to be better but it also gives you a more enjoyable high school experience and brings with it more friendships and connections with other classmates."
