State Speech Recognized Several OHS Performers

Cole Denner and Kilye Hucks performered "Please Have a Seat And Someone Will Be With You Shortly." They earned straight ones and were selected as a nonperformer for the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) All-State festival.

Ottumwa High School took seven events to the Large Group State Competition earlier this month. The results are as follows:

Three groups earned top ratings, including:

  • The group improvisation of Hucks earned straight ones. The group consisted of Kilye Hucks, Kaya Baca, and Bennett Rogers.
  • The ensemble of "Please Have a Seat And Someone Will Be With You Shortly" earned straight ones and was selected as a nonperformer for the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) All-State festival. Cole Denner and Kilye Hucks were the performers.
  • The musical theater group performed pieces from the musical "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" and earned straight ones. Performers included:  Dawson Brown, Lorna Bauer, Bennett Rogers, Rivers Maw, and Cole Denner.

Groups earning mixed-one ratings included:

  • The ensemble of Wit earned a mixed-one rating. Performers were Lorna Bauer, Isaac Ford, and Josie Young.
  • The improvisation group of Joshi earned a mixed-one rating. Hasya Joshi, Rivers Maw, and Brent Williams performed in the group.
  • The improvisation group of Hull earned a mixed-one rating. Alex Renneburg, Quintin Hull, and Trey Hull performed in the group.

The Readers' Theater group earned a mixed-two rating. Performers in the piece were Emily Park, Alex Renneberg, Kaya Baca, Nathan Campbell, Beth Milner, Janelle Eskew, Josie Young, Trey Hull, and Ella Palen.
