Members of the OHS Human Rights Youth Chapter participated in a student exchange activity with Johnston High School. This exchange was coordinated by Barb Hanson, GEAR UP Coordinator at OHS, and Sarah Wessling, a Johnston High School English teacher who was also named Iowa Teacher of the Year and the National Teacher of the Year in 2010.
OHS students traveled to Johnston on January 22.
On January 27, Johnston students attended classes at OHS. The exchange provided an opportunity to experience high school in another Iowa community. The Johnston students are all interested in pursuing a career in education. OHS students who participted include: Alina Anuri, Melanie Alvardo, Meghan Cantu, Gabriel Garcia Medina, Serena Holtsman, Ava Hanson, Luis Lozano, Juventino Leyva, Kristine Mobo, and Mariana Lopez Duran.
