Bilingual Storytime Offered at Library

bilingual storytime

OHS students who participate in Al Exito are part of a bilingual storytime project at the Ottumwa Public Library.

Hora de Cuentos is a bilingual storytime made possible through a grant from the Legacy Youth Alliance. Children ages three-five receive a bilingual book every month for six months. During the program, the parent or an Al Exito volunteer reads to the children in both English and Spanish to expand the children's vocabulary skills while bonding with their parents and volunteers. A mini craft is completed afterwards. During the first session, parents were given a tour of the children's area and students were able to sign up for 1,000 books before kindergarten initiative.  The program will run every Thursday evening October - March.
