Twenty-three GEAR UP students spent the day at the University of Iowa. The University collaborated with GEAR UP Iowa to host a day designed specifically for GEAR UP students. The OHS juniors learned about different supports on campus, participated in a campus scavenger hunt, and were able to meet with staff from a variety of fields.
After meeting with the representatives from the Public Health booth, a student told GEAR UP coordinator, Barb Hanson, "I know what I want to declare my pre-med major in now!" Another student shared, "I love it here!"
Over all, there was great feedback from the students and it was an excellent opportunity for them.
