Thirty-one students in Ottumwa's Al Exito attended the Multicultural College Access Day at the University of Northern Iowa on October 25. Students had the opportunity to learn about the admissions process, financial aid, and micro-scholarships through RaiseMe. In addition, they visited several booths on what UNI has to offer to help students be successful such as TRIO, Student Support Services, tutoring sessions, the library and more. Information on the different majors offered were displayed. Students were happy to learn that there is help on choosing majors for those who are undecided.
"94% of students who attended were first generation students, which is why it is so important for them to set foot on a campus and learn about the different opportunities available to them," said Juanita Weyenberg, Al Exito sponsor. "Post secondary education is no longer a dream for these students, it is becoming a reality."
