On Thursday, October 11, 25 Al Exito students attended the 20th Annual Latinx Student Summit at the University of Iowa. The summit attracts 300 high school students from around the state and gives them the opportunity to select workshops such as scholarship writing, mental health, breaking barriers, etc. This year, three students represented OHS for the first time in a Latinx History competition. OHS senior, Daniela Zeledon, took third place on her presentation on the Bracero Program, a program initiated during World War II to allow Mexican laborers to work in the U.S. due to farm labor shortages.
"It was a great experience for the students to participate," said Juanita Weyenberg, Al Exito sponsor. "I heard many positive comments from professors and graduate students about our students and their work/participation. I am very proud as they represented OHS well!"
