The Ottumwa High School Broadway Bulldogs will perform “Orphan Train” on Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m. in the OHS auditorium.
The play takes place in the late 1920s, when close to a million orphans roamed the dirty streets of New York City. A very fortunate few were placed on Orphan Trains and sent west, looking for loving homes. The last Orphan Train departs New York City, and two abusive Placing Agents in charge have decided to make this final trip their most profitable. A last-minute orphan is added to their cargo - a mysterious little boy with no past. In Kansas, the train’s destination, Nettie McCleary, a young Kansas farm wife, is devastated by the loss of her baby. She holds on to the hope her child will return to her. Worlds of faith and evil, love and greed collide as the train makes its way to Kansas.
