Hasya Joshi, a 10th grader at Ottumwa High School, was recently selected as a delegate representing OHS and the State of Iowa at the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders. He will attend the event in Boston this summer.
The Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders is a highly selective national program honoring academically superior high school students dedicated to careers in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). He will meet representatives from several Ivy League universities and hear from Nobel Peace Prize winners in the field of science. Joshi was recognized because of his outstanding grades, leadership potential, and desire to contribute to the field of science or technology. “I’m proud to represent Ottumwa,” he said.
He currently serves as a GEAR UP Ambassador and last summer was a Camp Invention mentor, sharing the importance of STEM with student participants.
Joshi hopes plans to pursue a career in engineering. He took Introduction to Engineering and is currently in Principles of Engineering. Both are Project Lead The Way courses that promote engineering as a career. “I love math,” he said. He learned a lot about engineering in the courses and hopes to come up with an innovative invention someday. “I have some ideas,” he said.
The sophomore has also been invited to attend the National Student Leadership Conference in August at Northwestern University.
