Sweet Sixteen will promote College Awareness

Educational Talent Search (ETS) (Alli Bogaard) and GEARUP (Barb Hanson) are teaming up to promote college awareness at Ottumwa High School during the popular March Madness season. Students will use WIN time class to participate in a variety of activities.

A Sweet Sixteen team will be assisgned to each WIN classroom. WIN students will decorate the classroom door the week of March 19 around the assigned team. Door designs will feature: school name, mascot, location, and school colors.

Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23 – The teams will play in the Sweet Sixteen games. Encourage your students to wear their team’s colors to help cheer them on. Teachers will share college experiences with students. Discussions could include information about the size of school attended, what classes were like,  involvement in extracurricular activities, how the college decision was made, what the college search was like, etc.

Tuesday March 27 and Wednesday March 28 – Students will complete biographies of players or famous alumni from their Sweet Sixteen college.

Tuesday, April 3 – All students, teachers and staff are invited to wear their alma mater or favorite college apparel as well as jeans.
