Twenty-seven students from Ottumwa High School attended the 19th Annual Latinx Youth Summit. The summit was part of the “Strengthening and Valuing Latino/a Communities in Iowa conference held in Iowa City. Over 200 students from around the state participated last week. The event was coordinated by the Center for Diversity and Enrichment and the University of Iowa School of Social Work.
Students were able to attend different workshops of their interest. The keynote speaker, Dr. Julio Camarrota, gave a presentation about disengaged youth and Latino dropout rates. His research focuses on Latina/o youth.
