Ten members of the Ottumwa Bulldogs Archery Team earned state qualifying scores in their first year of competition. Qualifying scores are determined by adding the archer's two highest scores that meet the following criteria: Elementary: 460; Middle School: 490; and High School: 524.
Archers who will compete at state include: Chloe Armstrong, 466, Horace Mann; Michaela-Ann Schlechter, 548; Zach Ross, 535; Tyler Thompson, 516; Jeffery Shauman, 514; Thatcher Pierson, 508; and Tyler Cook, 495, Evans Middle School; and Sierra Norman, 546; Brandon Davis, 535; and Brook Paris, 529, Ottumwa High School.
Although the Evans Middle School team did not qualify for state competition, they ended the season 25th in the state with a score total of 5,613. The Ottumwa High School team finished the season 32nd in the state. Elementary teams, although large in total number, did not compete as a team as each school has to have its own team.
The archery team will begin competition again next fall. They also plan to host a summer archery clinic as well as other activities throughout the year.
