Changes to Immunization Requirements

ATTENTION ALL 2017-18 INCOMING 7TH GRADE STUDENTS :

The Iowa Department of Health has made changes to the immunization law for the start of the next school year.  All students entering school in August MUST have proof of a meningococcal vaccine or a certificate of exemption for this vaccine. There will be NO grace/extension period for the implementation of this requirement.  Your student may be denied attendance if they have not met this requirement for the vaccine.

Your student must also have a Tdap booster before entering 7th grade. The Tdap requirement has been in place since the 2013-14 school year and requires a booster dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, and a cellular Pertussis containing vaccine regardless of the interval since the last Tetanus/Diphtheria containing vaccine.

Now is a great time for your child to receive these immunizations and beat the back-to-school rush.  Please contact your child’s primary health care provider or call Wapello County Public Health nurses for information regarding the immunization clinic times at (641) 682-5434. You may also call Evans middle school nurse if you have questions regarding these vaccine requirements after August 16 at (641) 684-6511 x2118.
