Ottumwa High School officials have reported to the Iowa High School Athletic Association that an academically ineligible student participated in the sophomore and varsity football games against Keokuk on August 30, 2013. In addition, an academically ineligible student participated in the cross country meet on September 5, 2013. The athletic office became aware of both of these situations late last week and immediately reported these incidents to the IHSAA.
Due to these violations, the Iowa High School Athletic Association has ruled that Ottumwa will forfeit the sophomore and varsity football games to Keokuk and forfeit its 2nd place finish in the Pekin Invitational Cross Country Meet. The oversight was corrected immediately; therefore Friday's varsity football victory against Mt. Pleasant stands.
To ensure that the No Pass No Play eligibility policy is adhered to, Ottumwa High School has reviewed its athletic eligibility process and will implement new procedures to make sure that this situation does not occur again.
