As part of the 2015 Principal of the Year activities, Ottumwa High School principal, Mark Hanson, attended the National Principals' Institute in Washington DC September 15-18. Each of the 50 states' principals were honored at a special ceremony. The principals then had a chance to collaborate with each other to discuss initiatives that had been successful in their respective buildings. On Thursday, September 17, Hanson visited the offices of Senator Joni Ernst, Congressman Dave Loebsack, and Senator Chuck Grassley to discuss educational issues pertinent to the Ottumwa Schools.
Hanson stated that after talking to many of the other states' principals of the year, Ottumwa High showed very well. "The improvement in climate, graduation rate, and student achievement have created an environment at OHS that all of Ottumwa can be proud of," he said.
