Anatomy Project Funded

The Robert McCune Endowment, a fund of the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, has awarded a grant to the Ottumwa High School Advanced Anatomy & Physiology class. Funds will support the creation of a public awareness campaign related to cancer. Jeremy Allar, an OHS science teacher, will lead the project during this school year.

The project is similar to the class's organ and tissue donation campaign that has been a part of the course's curriculum for the past 20 years. Students will create a variety of messages using different media to reach a variety of audiences.

"With this grant, the Advanced Anatomy & Physiology students will approach the study of cancer from a different angle," said Allar. "They need to look at how to inform and educate people about cancer as opposed to looking at the details of it's formation and workings.  This grant funded project requires a more personal/humanitarian approach as opposed to a strictly academic approach to cancer.  The students are really refining their personal communication skills and stretching their plans to educate everyone from elementary students to older adults."
