JROTC Presents Annual Awards

Sophomore Garrett Orwig was recognized as Cadet of the Year during the Ottumwa High School JROTC Bulldog Battalion’s 18th annual Awards Ceremony on Monday in the OHS cafeteria. There were nearly 200 people in attendance, including cadets, parents, national organization representatives, and teachers.

The annual ceremony is held to recognize JROTC cadets and their accomplishments during the school year. This year, 14 national organizations presented awards to 16 deserving cadets and local awards were presented to 36 cadets. Mr. Mark Hanson, Principal, and Dr. Davis Eidahl, Superintendant, served as the awards presenters for all local awards and for national organizations that were not represented.

National organization representatives were on hand from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), The American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Veterans of Foreign Wars, U. S. Army Recruiting Command, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and American Veterans of WW II, Korea and Vietnam.
