The Ottumwa Community School District’s annual Springfest Concert, featuring high school band and orchestra students, will be held on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the OHS Auditorium.
The performance will begin with the concert band featuring music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Selections include: “Carry On My Wayward Son,” “Take On Me,” “Ninties Medley,” and “Welcome to the Black Parade.” The band is directed by Troy Gerleman and Alex Mason.
The string orchestra will feature three popular string pieces, "Secrets” by One Republic, “Hallelujah” from Shrek, and “Yesterday” by the Beatles. These first three pieces are arrangements for string orchestra. The orchestra will also perform an arrangement of “Shenandoah” by Daniel Walter and an arrangement of “Lord of the Rings” by Bob Cerulli. The final selections are for a symphony orchestra, which includes winds and brass. Each year, the seniors select up to two songs for their last performance. The senior selections are “Secrets” and “Hallelujah.” The orchestra is directed by Henry Weberpal.
Band Awards, Director Awards, and Orchestra Awards will also be presented. Students who have earned enough points to letter will also be recognized.
