Three Ottumwa Girl Scouts, Kalina Eskew, Alex Reeves, and Thursby Barwick, were invited to attend the fifth annual Iowa Women Lead Change conference on Wednesday. They were part of 1,000 women, 150 college students and 100 Girl Scouts in attendance. All three OHS students are part of Girl Scouts of the USA. The conference, "Transforming Journeys" was held in Des Moines.
The conference featured Arianna Huffington, who made Time Magazine's list of the world's 100 Most Influential People and Forbes' Most Powerful Women list, is Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post. Other speakers included: Marietta C. Davis, vice president of U.S. Dynamics at Microsoft; Sara Laschever, author, teacher and researcher; Anna Maria Chávez, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA; Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds, State of Iowa; and others. Speakers shared their wisdom and expertise on a wide range of leadership and professional development topics.
According to Iowa Women Lead Change's website, the conference "has helped thousands of women and female college students develop leadership skills by providing networking opportunities and time to interact with women leaders."
