Over 8,300 items were collected in a recent food drive at Ottumwa High School. The drive will support efforts by the school to ensure students do not go hungry on the weekends.
Drive donations included:
- 1,649 food items
- 6,665 personal Hygiene items
- over 60 Backpacks
The items that can be used to supply the OHS and Evans Backpack program will be stored in the OHS food pantry. All the remaining items will be donated to the Food Bank of Southern Iowa for distribution to the area food pantries.
Congratulations to the winning class, Mrs. Fischels. Her class earned 17,356 points through the items they donated.
Sponsors of the drive, including the Ottumwa High School Student Council, Torch Club, Interact Club and Growing Wapello Together would like to thank all who participated in the food drive. “The big winners are all who participated to bring awareness and help with the food insecure within our community,” said Joe Schulz, Growing Wapello Together director.
