Students to Attend "Taking the Road Less Traveled"

More than 70 students will attend the Taking the Road Less Traveled career conference for girls on Thursday, October 16. The conference, sponsored by the Program for Women in Science & Engineering has been sponsoring the Taking the Road Less Traveled career exploration conferences for girls in grades 6-12 each year since 1987.

According to OHS counselor, Steve Zimmerman, "this is a conference for high school girls who might be interested in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering and math)." The conference format includes career exploration workshops led by women working in STEM fields, tours of ISU labs and facilities; and special sessions for educators.

"Last year I took 12 girls," Zimmerman said. "The conference will feature a keynote speaker who is usually a student at Iowa State. It is a great opportunity to see the campus and learn about career options."
