Four OHS orchestra students received I ratings at the Iowa High School Music Association's Solo and Ensemble Contest. Ellen Willhoit received a rating of I on her solo with a perfect score of 35 points. She also received an Outstanding Performance Award for her center and was invited to perform at a recital for Outstanding Award winners in Ames on May 14.
Madalyn McKelvey also received a perfect score of 35 and a I for her violin solo. "Perfect scores are rare," said OHS orchestra instructor Patty Babb.
The violin quartet of Ellen Willhoit, Madalyn McKelvey, Rose Kearney and Kim Souravong received a rating of I (one point short of a perfect score).
The OHS vocal department had 15 events for the Iowa State Solo and Small Ensemble contest. Out of the 15, eight received a I rating. Madalynn McKelvey received a perfect score on her solo. Below are the events that received a I rating.
