Zimmerman Finalist for Associate Principal of the Year

Steve Zimmerman

Steve Zimmerman, associate principal at OHS, was selected as a finalist for the 2015 Iowa Assistant Secondary Principal of the Year award sponsored by the School Administrators of Iowa. "It is an honor for us to recognize quality school leaders in Iowa," said Dan Smith, SAI executive director.

Associate principal at OHS since 2013, he was previously a Dean of Students since 2006. He started his career as an eighth grade science teacher in the district. Zimmerman has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and his master’s in education administration from Drake University.

He has been instrumental in overseeing the Ninth Grade Academy, working with students and families to ease transition to the high school, and providing college and STEM-related career opportunities to all students.

Zimmerman is the second administrator in the district to receive recognition from their peers in the past month. Superintendent Davis Eidahl was recently a finalist for Iowa Superintendent of the Year. Both will be recognized at SAI's awards reception next August in Des Moines.

SAI, a statewide organization founded in 1987, represents more than 2000 Iowa educational administrators. SAI's mission is to support, encourage and develop Iowa’s educational leaders and learners.
