The 92-member OHS marching band, Pride of Ottumwa, took second place at the Muscatine Marching Band Competition on Saturday. Ten bands competed in this event. The band scored over an 80 on a 100 point scale for only the second time in the history of the marching band program. The first place band, Clinton, was .8 points ahead of OHS, with 220 marching members.
Pride of Ottumwa also earned the Captain Award for Best Horn Line. This is awarded to the outstanding musical performance of the evening. This is the first time Ottumwa has received this award. “To say our kids were excited is a huge understatement,” said OHS band director, Troy Gerleman.
The band will compete in state competition in Pella on Saturday, October 18 at 3:20 p.m.
