One of the goals of the Iowa Safe and Supportive Schools grant is to improve the physical environment at OHS.
The School Community Council and the Iowa Safe and Supportive Schools Youth Leadership Team hosted a Clean Up Day in the spring. The remaining funds from this event were given to the OHS Woods class to construct benches. All work was done by OHS students. Benches were installed at the main entrances on Second and Fourth Street.
"The outside of Ottumwa High School has undergone a facelift," said OHS Principal Mark Hanson. "Not only has better lighting, a new sign, and improved signage been added, but benches built by OHS vocational students have recently been built for student use. These benches are not only well crafted, but they add a personal touch to the improvements outside Ottumwa High School. I would like to thank the IS3 committee and our vocational students for helping us give OHS a first class look."
