Three Ottumwa High School cheerleaders were recognized at the Shrine Bowl media day on April 10 in Altoona. Juniors Ivy Cutler, Katelyn Randall, and Brooke McCoy were selected last fall after tryouts to participate as cheerleaders in the Shrine Bowl game on July 29 at the UNI Dome.
Athletes (football players and cheerleaders) from across the state raise money for Shriner's Hospitals across the Midwest. No family is required to pay for their care or transportation to the hospital. The annual game is a way to raise money and awareness.
Each athlete, upon selection, is asked to raise $800 to contribute to the Shriner's Hospitals. The athletes will report for a week of camp prior to the game to practice and meet some of the children who benefit from the money the game and the players raise. Their slogan for the game is "Strong legs run that weak legs may walk."
