Several members of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Ottumwa High School will compete in state competition in March.
Ally Grooms and Maddi Wiggins recently competed at the regional level and received a Silver Medal for their presentation on "Focus On Children." Other members competing at state include: Fernando Palacios, Astrid De Paz, and Cheyanne Young. They will compete in the Culinary Arts division.
FCCLA is a national organization founded in 1945. OHS became affiliated as a state and national member this fall by starting a FCCLA organization. In its first year, FCCLA club is for students taking courses in Family and Consumer Sciences. It is the only student organization with the family as its central focus. The mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through character development; creative and critical thinking; interpersonal communication; practical knowledge; and career preparation.
On the District level, Bret Doud, was voted as FCCLA District 10 President for 2015-2016 school year. Family and Consumer Science teacher, Barbara Elswick, is the OHS sponsor.
