Competition Cheer Squad Competes

The OHS Competition Cheer Squad placed tenth at the Iowa Cheerleading Coaches’ Association State Cheerleading Competition November 2 in Des Moines. The squad performed in the 4A category against 15 other teams, scoring within 1.5 points from ninth place. There were a total of 103 schools that performed at the State Cheerleading Competition, with 1,843 high school cheerleaders in attendance. OHS cheerleaders include seniors Emily Bittner, Mikayla Boyenga, Abbie Budan, Tristen Copple, Danielle Frazier, Sydney Grooms, Krista Heckart, and Jennifer Klodt; juniors include Isabella Brauhn, Savannah Deiters, and Bailee Randall; sophomores include Rhiannon Hamm, Bailey O’Brien, and Katlyn Palmer; and freshmen include Mia Calcaterra, Nicole Copple, Allison Grooms, and Destiney Playle.

Also participating was a stunt group from Ottumwa. The stunt group placed 20th out of 33 in the 4A division. Stunt team members include: Tristen Copple, Jennifer Klodt, Bailee Randall, Allison Grooms, and Destiney Playle.

The cheerleaders will perform an exhibition of the routine at a wrestling meet and a basketball game this winter. Cheerleading coaches are Debb Kent and Heather Swanstrom.
