To complete State of Iowa required dental screenings, the local I-Smile™ Coordinator will be at Ottumwa High School during the week of December 8. The Iowa legislature passed a law in 2008 requiring all students enrolled in 9th grade have a dental screening. A registered dental hygienist will provide screenings for all students without a dental certificate on file. The dental screening is an examination of the soft and hard tissues of the mouth and will be completed with a flash light, disposable mouth mirror and gloves. An informational letter will be sent home with your student following the screening.
If you do not want your student to receive a free dental screening from the I-Smile™ program, please contact the school nurse by December.
If you have a dentist and your student has received an exam within the last year, please call your dentist and have them fax the State of Iowa approved Dental Screening certificate to the high school (641-682-7528). All dentists have access to this form.
If you have questions, please contact Denise Janssen, RDH I-Smile™ Coordinator, at 641-682-8784.
