The Ottumwa High School trap shooting team recently competed at the 2015 Scholastic Clay Target Program’s National Championship in Sparta, Illinois at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex. The squad of four with three alternates finished in 14th place. Participants included: Abe Parker, Charles Wilhoit, Levi Parks, Jake McCall, Dylan Salter, Dakota Bix and Cory Clark. "As a squad, our team shot 956 out of 1000 clay targets and finished 14th in the nation in their division," said Randy Woodruff, coach.
Woodruff is proud of what the team accomplished in their first year. “We’ll be very competitive next year,” he said. The school will field a varsity and junior varsity team.
Students earned seven patches during the competition, six for 25 straight shots and one for 50.
