IHCC Offers Health Career Exploration

The Health Career Exploration Academy will host a week-long program for sophomores and juniors July 27-31.

The Academy is an innovative program developed by Indian Hills Community College’s Rural Health Education Partnership with funding from the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation. This program is open to high school sophomores and juniors who have an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Students will participate in a week-long program with additional dates of August 5 and 12 and 1 additional evening during the early school year, date yet to be set.

During the program students will participate in a variety of activities, including learning about the diagnostic approach to healthcare; hands-on experiences with medical procedures and equipment; exploring different health professions; speaking with current healthcare professionals about their career paths; investigating college programs and career pathways for various healthcare professions; locating and competitively applying for scholarships; field trips to area universities/medical schools; as well as many other activities.

There is no cost for this program.  The Academy is funded by the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation. Students successfully completing the program will receive 3.0 semester credit hours of college credit. Participants must complete an application to the program.
