In early August, 20 JROTC cadets attended a five-day camp at Camp Dodge in Des Moines. Cadets train for four days and then compete against each other on the fifth. There were three companies with 350 cadets in attendance. Some of the events included rappelling, land navigation, rope bridging, obstacle course, leader reaction course, rock climbing, drown proofing, and a cadet fitness test ( 1 mile run, 1 minute curl-up, V sit, shuttle run, pull ups).
The objectives for the camp are
- Give the cadets a chance to practice leadership in unfamiliar environment
- Allows cadets to work on citizenship
- Give the cadets a chance to experience living and interacting with their peers from other schools in a military environment
- Provides the cadets with adventure training we can' t do in a classroom environment
- Let the cadet have fun
