Need help getting to college? OHS is participating in a new initiative to that can help students and their families take that next step after graduation.
A student success coach has been hired by Indian Hills through TRIO Educational Talent Search. Alli Bogaard, the coach at OHS, will help students get to college. She can help with college visits including mileage reimbursement; financial aid; scholarships; assist with the college admission process; ACT/SAT preparation and fee waivers; and will host workshops for families. There is no cost to this program.
"I want students to understand that college is attainable," said Bogaard. College includes anything from a three-month certificate program to attending a four-year university.
Bogaard has several years of experience helping students fill out all the necessary forms and find money to help reduce the cost of a college education. She has 10 years of social work experience with the State of Iowa and spent the past five years as a student success coach with Central College in Pella.
To participate, students and parents need to complete an application by November 16. "I'm hoping to generate excitement for the program and reach as many students as I can," she said. The program will start second semester.
