•  PARENT REFERRAL PROCEDURE

    Alabama Definition of Gifted:

Gifted students are those who perform at high levels in academic or creative fields when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. These students require services not ordinarily provided by the regular school program. Students possessing these abilities can be found in all populations, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.

Things to keep in mind before making a parent referral:

    1. All A’s on report cards do not mean a child is gifted.
    2. Boosting a child’s self-esteem is not a reason to refer for Enrichment unless the child really is gifted.
    3. Many children could “benefit” from Enrichment; however, truly gifted children require more challenge than the regular classroom can easily provide.
    4. Teachers have the advantage of seeing your child in comparison to other children.
