MGSD Communications - January 2, 2021

Hello MGSD families,

We hope all of our staff, students, and families have had the opportunity to spend some time relaxing and enjoying the holiday break.  We look forward to welcoming back our students to school on Tuesday, January 5, depending on their grade level, cohort and schedule.  For our pre-K through fifth grade students, your schools have shared a calendar with your child’s schedule with you previously.  Please follow accordingly.  For our 6th through 12th grade students, your schools have shared the WIN Wednesday schedules with you.

As we start back next week, we want to remind everyone of the importance of following COVID-19 protocols as outlined by the state and county.  Please do not send your child to school if they are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms (please see the graphic included below).  Also, do not send your child to school if they have been exposed to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last two weeks.  We ask that you notify your child’s teacher, principal, or school nurse in either of these situations.  Your child’s school nurse can assist you with quarantine dates in both cases. We are asking our families to err on the side of caution.  If you feel your child may have or has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, keep them home until they can safely return to school. Your school nurse can also help you know when it is safe to return. To acquaint yourself with the Parent Attestation form that you should have completed upon your child returning to in-person learning in the Fall, please visit this link:  MGSD Symptom Screening/Attestation Form.

We realize Iredell County is in the Red Zone.  While our district numbers appear to be decreasing with the two week break (MGSD COVID-19 Dashboard), our numbers in our county and state are not showing such a positive trend. Rest assured that we will continue to closely monitor our district numbers as we return to school following this holiday season.  As a reminder, it is not only extremely important to wear masks, wash your hands, and socially distance while at school, but it is also important to follow these precautions when in the community.  While we cannot guarantee zero cases, these precautions play an important role in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.  Let’s all do our part.  By working together and following COVID-19 safety protocols, we can continue to educate our students in a safe manner.
