Wellness Procedures and Guidelines
Coordinated School Health convenes the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) a minimum of 4 times a year. Members of the SHAC come from different areas of the community and from within the school district. SHACs assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction. Additionally, SHACs can help districts meet performance goals and play an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. They can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce children's knowledge and skills to stay healthy for a lifetime. A major role of the MCPS SHAC is the approval, assessment, and assessment of required wellness policies and procedures.

The above links are provided simply as resources. Before implementing, follow any necessary permission procedures that may be in place at each individual school. Always be mindful of a child's particular medical condition and the specifics of the condition. These could include but are not limited to, diabetes, asthma, and food allergies.
For example, with food allergies, granola bars and trail mix are not for those with nut allergies, even if peanuts are not listed in the ingredients. Reasons include food processing and the issue of cross contamination. It is also important to know food ingredients and check labels for cine ingredients, even in the same foods on the same shelf in the same store, could be different.
