100th Anniversary

100th Anniversary Bulldog

La Porte ISD’s centennial celebration culminated with a 100th anniversary block party held at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The event began with an opening ceremony at which Kerron Clement, 2003 La Porte High School graduate and 2016 Olympic gold medalist, was honored. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Kathy Green, who served as mistress of ceremonies, presented Clement with a proclamation congratulating him on his success.

Board President Dee Anne Thomson introduced Beverly Ferguson, regional director of community relations for Congressman Brian Babin’s office, who presented the district with a Congressional Record recognizing La Porte ISD for this milestone and also recognized Clement for his accomplishments.

The La Porte High School JROTC presented the colors, and the LPHS Choir sang the national anthem.  Following remarks from Superintendent of Schools Lloyd W. Graham, the cheerleaders led a cheer and the band played the school fight song and alma mater.

Following the ceremony, games and activities sponsored by over 30 La Porte ISD schools and school organizations were available on the stadium track. A number of vendors also participated with items for sale.

A display of La Porte ISD memorabilia depicting the different eras of the district’s history was set up in the foyer of the new LPHS fine arts facility, and food trucks lined the west side of the stadium parking lot.
