La Porte ISD Hall of Honor

The nominating period for the 2024 Hall of Honor Awards is closed.   

Distinguished Alumni Award
To be eligible for the award, the individual must have:

  • graduated from La Porte High School, Viola DeWalt High School, or George Washington Carver High School at least ten years before the date of receiving the award;
  • has special achievement in the nominee’s area of specialization;
  • has received honors, awards, etc. on a local, regional, national, and/or international level;
  • can demonstrate community service and/or contributions to society in general, or to a specific segment of society; and
  • must be an individual of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the award will reflect honor on the school district and create a sense of pride among the members of the community.

Distinguished Staff Award
To be eligible for the award, the individual must have:

  • been employed by La Porte ISD for a minimum of five years;
  • at least two years must have elapsed between the nominee’s employment with La Porte ISD and the date of receiving the award;
  • contributed substantial and significant support to La Porte ISD specifically, and education in general;
  • developed relationships with district and community members to foster community learning;
  • made a positive impact on students in general; and
  • must be an individual of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the award will reflect honor on the school district and create a sense of pride among the members of the community.

Distinguished Excellence Award
To be eligible for the award in an individual capacity, the individual must have:

  • graduated from La Porte High School, Viola DeWalt High School, or George Washington Carver High School at least ten years before the date of receiving the award; and
  • if competed as a student in the area of sports, been a member of a La Porte ISD varsity team or individual varsity sport; or
  • if competed as a student in the area of academics and fine arts, been a member of an academic or fine arts team/group or participated as an individual in competition related to an academic or fine arts area; and
  • won an individual State Championship in their respective sport or field or qualified for State in their respective sport or field; or earned state or national honors related to their athletic, academic or fine arts endeavors while as a student; and
  • must be an individual of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the award will reflect honor on the school district and create a sense of pride among the members of the community.

To be eligible for the award in a team capacity, the team must have:

  • won a State Championship; and
  • must be a team of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the award will reflect honor on the school district and create a sense of pride among the members of the community.

Distinguished Citizen Award
To be eligible for the award, the individual must have:

  • supported and encouraged academic achievement in a meaningful way;
  • made significant contributions to the development and improvement of La Porte ISD;
  • made a positive impact overall on La Porte ISD; and
  • must be an individual of such integrity, stature and demonstrated ability that the award will reflect honor on the school district and create a sense of pride among the members of the community.
  •  Persons who have served on the La Porte ISD Board of Trustees for any period, who are not currently serving at the time of the award, and are nominated because of their contributions while serving on the Board are eligible for this award.
