Summer School Course
Mountain Biking 101 – Middle SchoolCourse Description
Middle School MTB 101 is designed to introduce riders to mountain biking and extend the skills of those already riding off-road. Climbing, descending, cornering, and riding over obstacles, along with fitness training, safety, and basic bike maintenance will be among the topics covered. Lead coach, Josh Shively, is a teacher in the La Crosse School District and National Interscholastic Cycling Association certified coach with the La Crosse Area Middle School and High School Mountain Bike Team (which starts practices in July). He will be accompanied by 3 other mountain bike team coaches so the class can be split into small groups for skills work. Students will need to arrive with a mountain bike that has working brakes and shifters and is ready to ride on dirt trails, wearing a helmet and riding attire, including closed-toe shoes. Loaner bikes and helmets may be available upon request. For equipment needs or questions about MTB 101 or the MTB team, please contact Coach Shively by email: jshively@lacrossesd.org. If rain report to Northside Coulee Montessori.
