LA CROSSE, Wis., (May 17, 2021) – The Board of Education for the School District of La Crosse approved the hiring of Oscar Uribe as the new principal of Summit Environmental School.
Uribe has 10 years of administrative experience and comes to La Crosse from the Riverway Learning Community public charter school in Winona where he has been the director. He has also served as a principal in both the Rochester Public Schools and Winona Area Public Schools.
“Oscar brings creative and innovative ideas to educational leadership,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aaron Engel. “He plans to continue to build on our already strong local partnerships by increasing community involvement and investment in our schools while celebrating the individual differences and abilities of our students to help them feel proud to be themselves. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Oscar to the La Crosse Schools family.”
Uribe is a 1999 graduate of the Universidad de las Américas Puebla with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He earned his Master’s Degree in School Improvement from Texas State University in 2008.
“As a bilingual and bicultural immigrant, a former exchange student, and an avid world traveler I use my personal experiences to connect with students and families so we can grow together as a community of learners where all students reach their full potential in a positive environment,” said Uribe. “I am a servant leader with a commitment to innovative education that meets the needs of all learners, and I’m dedicated to ensuring that all students receive the education and life experiences they need to be successful.”
Uribe will begin his new role on July 1, after the retirement of current principal Dirk Hunter.
