LA CROSSE, Wis., (May 4, 2021) – The Board of Education for the School District of La Crosse approved the hiring of Jeff Axness as the new principal of La Crosse Central High School.
Axness has 25 years of education experience serving the last 10 years as an administrator at La Crosse Central High School, first as the dean of students followed then by his role as the school’s associate principal. Prior to his time at Central, Axness was a teacher at La Crosse Logan High School for nearly 14 years.
“Jeff is a wonderful addition for us and the La Crosse community, and we are excited to have him leading Central High School,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aaron Engel. “He brings an abundance of experience and knowledge to this position which will help guide Central High School into its next successful chapter.”
Axness is a 1996 graduate of Winona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Education. He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University in 2004.
“I’ve devoted my entire career to public education and I firmly believe that the work we do changes for the better the lives of the young people we serve,” said Axness. “We need to do our absolute best every day to serve our community by ensuring our students have the finest school experience possible. We must strive to make sure each and every student knows we will never give up on them, their goals, and their dreams.”
Axness will begin his new role July 1, after the retirement of current principal Troy McDonald.
