“”LA CROSSE, Wis., (November 15, 2021) – Students from our La Crosse Engineering Academy recently held their first open house at Western Technical College’s Integrated Technology Center for the academy’s educational and industry partners. The students demonstrated their experience in FANUC robot operation, soldering, electrical wiring, CISCO networking, and 3D modeling and printing.
The open house also offered an opportunity for current and prospective partners to have conversations about the academy’s future growth and partnership opportunities like job shadows, mentorships, and becoming youth apprenticeship employers. Partners in attendance included HP, IBM, Lynxx Networks, MultiStack, JF Brennan, Trane, among others.
“I’m most excited about the buzz we’re seeing in the kids today,” said Technology Education Teacher Lucas Jandrin. “They’re really excited to get to highlight what they can do in these different fields and it’s fantastic to see these kids be able to show all of the dedication, heart, and time they’ve put into this work.”
The La Crosse Engineering Academy is a two-year district program preparing students entering grades 11 and 12 for education and careers related to engineering. The academy shapes skills, expectations, and habits of this future workforce, exposes them to a wide range of careers within specific industries, and builds confidence about future career decisions.
Students in the academy can work toward their Robot Operator I certification, CISCO Networking certification, and others while also earning transcripted credits from Western Technical College and Project Lead the Way through the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Wisconsin – Stout.
The School District of La Crosse is home to three CTE (Career and Technical Education) academies: Architecture and Construction, Engineering, and Health Science. To learn more visit www.lacrosseschools.org.
