PATRICIA TABET NAMED SPECIAL HONORARY VOLUNTEER
Posted by J.S. at 5/16/2017By Tanya Einhaus, PTA Volunteer Coordinator
This month we will not be recognizing a Volunteer of the Month but a member of the Fremont family who deserves a very special recognition.
Congratulations to Patricia Tabet who is Fremont’s Special Honorary Volunteer!
Tabet has long been an active volunteer at our school. With two children at Fremont, now eighth-grader Nicholas and fifth-grader Natashya, she has been involved at school for the past seven years in many different ways. She has been room parent in both her children’s classrooms since 2010 and served as Promotion Chair, Sixth-Grade Holiday Party Coordinator and Sixth-Grade Photographer and Slideshow Chair when Nicholas was in his last year at Fremont. In 2014 she also chaired the Mother/Son Bowling event.
For the past five years, she has served as Yearbook Chair, a major undertaking that chronicles the school year at Fremont. She takes photos at many school functions, and then sorts through the hundreds of photos taken by both her and other parents, designs the pages and brings the whole beautiful book together at the end.
On top of all that she helped with Kindergarten Dinner and served as Field Day Chair the past two years.
After school, Tabet, who works full-time, has been leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop.
Unfortunately, Tabet and her family will be moving soon and "it will be impossible to replace all the activities and positions that she held with one single person,” says one of the people who nominated her.
"She is friendly, caring, and an incredible asset to us. We are sad to see her go, and wish her the very best in her new adventures away from Fremont," is how another Fremont parent describes Tabet.
Tabet is the proud mother to six children and a two-time grandmother.
Thank you, Trish, for your endless work for Fremont! We wish you and your family all the best for the new chapter in your life. You will be missed.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: RITA ZOBAYAN-RICKEY
Posted by J.S. at 4/20/2017By Tanya Einhaus, PTA Volunteer Coordinator
Congratulations to our new Volunteer of the Month for April: Rita Zobayan-Rickey!
Zobayan-Rickey has contributed her time and talent to Fremont in many different ways over the past years.
She has been serving as Summer Reading Postcards Program Chair since 2014 and was room parent in Ms. Aiken’s and Mrs. Veeh’s classrooms.
Zobayan-Rickey is always eager to give support to her fellow volunteers, whether it’s helping with the Fremont Blood Drive, the PTA Scholastic Book Fair, Art Docent Program, or fill-in as Spa Day substitute volunteer during Staff Appreciation Week.
Through the years she has also regularly helped in her daughters’ classrooms.
In addition, Zobayan-Rickey served as a co-chair for this year’s Read-a-Thon. In this role, she put in many hours designing and printing flyers; securing 300 free books from book reviewers and Once Upon A Time bookstore (as well as two gift certificates); buying, assembling and delivering baskets; creating posters; and dressing up as Cat in the Hat to promote the event at assemblies and at lunch times.
On top of all that, Zobayan-Rickey taught guest lessons in Ms. Aiken’s and Ms. Pano’s classrooms.
Furthermore, she is a member of the Fremont School Site Council, and since 2012 co-leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout troop.
Zobayan-Rickey is the proud mom of seventh-grader Lucine and second-grader Adrine.
Thank you, Rita, for everything you do for Fremont! To select Fremont’s Volunteer of the Month, we reach out to Fremont Teachers and PAC/PTA Chairpersons to gather their nominations. Those nominated may include a dedicated and reliable classroom helper or may be a face you recognize who provides support to Fremont’s school-wide events and programs. Once the nominations are gathered, a selection is made based on each nominee’s outstanding contributions.

PTA HOSTS A 'POETRY JAM' FOR STUDENTS
Posted by J.S. at 4/4/2017A high-energy interactive "poetry jam" sponsored by the PTA capped off Fremont's month-long celebration of reading in March.
At the educational assembly last week, host David Prather performed an array of works by poets including Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, A.A. Milne and Carl Sandburg.
Students in kindergarten, first grade and second grade participated in a lively performance of Mother Goose's "This is the House That Jack Built."
Older students heard poetry from "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Casey at the Bat," and a beautiful performance of "The New Colossus," the sonnet that is engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty.
All of the students were treated to a tongue-twisting performance of "Bleezer's Ice Cream" and a familiar rendition of "This Land is Your Land."
Prather, the host of the L.A. Philharmonic’s annual “Open House” at the Hollywood Bowl, has toured schools with the LA Music Center for 15 years. He is a graduate of Princeton University and American Conservatory Theatre.
The poetry assembly was the last of the three PTA-sponsored assemblies of the year.
In January, students saw "Street Beat," a crowd-pleasing assembly devoted to the history of hip hop dance.
The performers used household items such as trash cans, buckets and old wheels as percussion instruments. Students learned about popping, locking, waving and more.
Last fall, the PTA sponsored a science-themed assembly called "Boo!"
Thank you to all the parents who support PTA and make these educational opportunities available to our children.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: OLIVIA GIL-FREUDENBERG
Posted by J.S. at 3/27/2017By Tanya Einhaus, PTA Volunteer Coordinator
Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month for March: Olivia Gil-Freudenberg!
Gil-Freudenberg has been helping out at our school in many ways. In 2014 she took on the Yogurt Tuesday chair position. Yogurt Tuesday is one of the students’ favorite fundraisers at Fremont. The PTA (in conjunction with Yum Yum Yogurt) sells yogurt cups to the students every Tuesday after school during the fall and spring seasons.
In addition she served as PTA membership co-chair for two years and was also part of the PTA nominating committee last school year.
On top of all that, she was room parent for one year in her son’s fourth-grade classroom.
Although Gil-Freudenberg is a working mom, she is always eager to help her fellow volunteers whenever she can.
She is proud mom of sixth-grader Alex and high school student Dominic.
Unfortunately, this will be her last school year at Fremont. Thank you, Olivia, for all you did and still do for our school!
