Campus Security and Safety Policy
In order to provide a safe instructional environment, Edison School has a closed campus policy. This means that every person not enrolled in our school or not an employee of GUSD MUST register in the Front Office before going to any part of the school grounds for any reason.
Parents, volunteers, and other visitors, once registered, will be given a badge to wear that should be visible to everyone with a specific destination. Anyone without a badge or in an undesignated area will be directed immediately to the Office and or escorted off the campus.
After School Supervision
We have NO after school playground supervision. Your child must go directly home at the conclusion of the school day. If you are unable to pick up your child on time, (s)he will be escorted to the front office. If you have an emergency, please contact the Office and make alternate arrangements.
Sexual Harassment
The Board of Education prohibits sexual harassment of any student by any employee, student, or another person in or from GUSD. Any student who engages in the sexual harassment of anyone in or from the district may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion. Students and staff are required immediately to report incidents or complaints of sexual harassment to the principal or appropriate designee.
Early Release of Students
Students who need to leave school during class time must be signed out and picked up in the school office. Students may be released only to the adults whose names are listed on the Emergency Student Information Card. For safety reasons, the identification of the person picking up the child will be checked. Adults should bring a photo identification card with them.
Visiting the School
We encourage our parents to visit the school and their child’s classroom, but security is a priority. All visitors, during the school hours, are required to sign in at the front office and get a Visitor’s Badge before entering the campus. We appreciate your support in keeping our school safe for all students. If you are a regular visitor and or a volunteer, you are required to give the school a copy of a TB test.
Uniform Complaint Procedure
As required by law, the District has an adopted “Uniform Complaint Policy and Procedures” for specified programs or activities which receive state or federal funding. These programs require a formal complaint procedure for any alleged acts of discrimination on the basis of ethnic group identification, religion, age, sex, color, or physical or mental disability. This procedure includes a process for filing, investigation, and resolution of a complaint from an individual or an agency alleging a violation. Any complaints must be filed with the Superintendent of GUSD no later than six months from the date of the alleged discrimination occurred or the date the person filing the complaint first obtained knowledge of the facts of the alleged discrimination.
Civility Policy
The Glendale Unified School District has a Civility Policy that all adults are expected to follow. In all interactions between parents, teachers, staff, and visitors it is expected that the adults act in a responsible manner using calm voices. Yelling, profanities and threats are NOT tolerated and may result in the adult being asked to leave the school grounds. It is important that the adults model for the children how to resolve disagreements properly.
